The Environment and Sustainability

We are proud to be the only courier of our kind taking the initiative to be a responsible company.  We now review our performance based not only on traditional indicators, but also on the environmental and social aspects of our business.  Some people call this the “Triple Bottom Line” of business, others call it “Sustainability” - we call it NovexClean. As a business with sustainable values and practices, we believe that we can be a great service provider and add value to your business as well as ours. Here are a few ways we’re doing this:

Greening our Fleet

• The company’s fleet currently includes gasoline-electric hybrids, natural gas vans, Biodiesel freight vehicles as well as conventional vehicles.

• Every year we save 88 tons of C02 emissions using hybrids, natural gas and Biodiesel.

• The efficiency of a hybrid engine reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change by 50%
• Hybrids deliver twice the fuel efficiency of a regular vehicle, reducing the consumption of a non-renewable resource.
• Novex’s delivery vehicles travel more than 25,000 kilometers each day throughout the Lower Mainland. On average, that’s approximately 4.5 lbs of harmful CO2 (carbon dioxide) emitted for every delivery, affecting the air quality in our communities.
• Prior to Novex Clean, this fleet emitted about 2500 pounds of carbon dioxide every day.

Greening our Office

Since 2002 we have saved:

• Paper Consumption reduced from 61 trees worth of paper to less than 1 new tree.
• 140,000 litres of effluent water
• 1,900 kg of solid waste
• 20,000 kwh of energy
• 4,700 kg green house gases
• 690 grams of cancer causing chemicals

Energy Reduction

Since 2002 we have saved:

• 18,500 kwh electricity, a 14% reduction
• 150 Gj of natural gas, a 60% reduction
• Over $1400 in energy costs

Greening our Business

• Customers are offered paperless billing and payment options
• Novex is proud to be the only same-day courier in Canada with an environmental management system registered to ISO 14001.
• Novex demonstrates transparency by reporting on the social, environmental and financial business performance in a unique online report called SEE-IT.

Our first priority is our customers – we are in the business of delivering, and there is no reason that we can't do this responsibly and better. Our new hybrids are fully integrated into our fleet, which means that if a customer places an order, the most appropriate vehicle is dispatched to pickup the order based on the driver's proximity to the customer, the urgency of the service and the capacity needed for a customer's order. This efficient dispatching ensures that your deliveries are made on time. We know we've got a long ways to go before we can say that all your deliveries are delivered in a hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle. We have no doubt that we will get there.
